Abstract
It is the time to think about the future of school dance education in preparation for the restructuring of the curriculum in line with the 2022 revised curriculum and to have practical discussions to expand demand as an optional subject. In this revision, the subject group of the dance subject was changed from ‘specialized subject’ to ‘optional subject (career and convergence)’ within the ‘general subject’, and therefore, the focus should be placed on securing the demand for selection in the 2025 high school credit system-based curriculum. Among them, the career choice course will be maintained as a course for students majoring in dance, and it is expected that ‘dance and media’, a convergence option, will be applied to general high school students. The core of the 2022 revised curriculum is the restructuring of existing subjects. Therefore, the ‘dance and media’ subject, which was a specialized subject, must be restructured with the purpose of cultivating students’ convergence capabilities. In order to increase the demand for elective dance subjects in the future, at this point in time, two major issues can be said to be the key. First, the direction and contents of dance textbooks. Second, it is to form a consensus between schools and field teachers. Reflecting the more comprehensive and diverse areas that can be experienced through dance, the direction of the 2022 revised curriculum, such as connection with life, problem-solving ability, and cultivation of digital literacy, should be well contained and should be introduced as a universal and familiar convergence optional curriculum. In this respect, it is necessary to reorganize the contents and characteristics of the existing specialized subj ects and actively promote them to the school s ite.
